Eco-Workplace analysis
Hi!
Welcome to get your Eco-Workplace analysis!

The character of the environmental issue has today got displaced from drainpipes and chimneys to the products, the transports and each specific person's way of living both home and at work.
A successful environmental work is therefore totally dependent on the fact that we, as both employees and citizens, work for a reduced environmental impact in our each-day-life.

Every employee makes daily choices.

For example:
  • Transports to and from work
  • Transports in the work, to and from conferences, client-meetings, projects etc.
  • Use of paper, for ex. copying or letters
  • Use of office-equipment and furniture
  • Use of IT-technology, for ex. fax, e-mail, computers and video-conferences.
  • The possibility to work at home.

Why Eco-Workplace analysis?

Many people have already started an active work to reduce the environmental impact. We recycle, car pool, turn off computers, switch off the light if it's not used etc. The aim with the Eco-Workplace analysis is that it shall give tips about what serves the environment best.

The object with the Eco-Workplace analysis is therefore that each and one employee makes an environmental inventory of his or her behaviour at work and fills in an inquiry via the computer.

The completed questionnaires are being processed against a database with help from so-called life-cycle inventory methodology.
Life cycle-methodology pays regard to the environmental impact from a "from the cradle to the grave" perspective and gives therefore a general picture of a product's or service's influence on the environment.

In this development work, b&g ab is co-operating with an American company, Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), which is world-leading in the area. They have a lot of experience of this type of methodology connected with eco labelling of products (Type III labelling or environmental description of goods).

The result is that each employee gets a profile where use of resources and environmental impacts are showed easy and pedagogical, the same time each employee also gets a tableau over the five most important areas and their affect on the Eco-Workplace analysis. A comparison between the employees at each office or in the whole company is made, and the average is shown in a separate profile.

The Eco-Workplace analysis leads to a better view of what's important to affect, and gives also the opportunity to compare your own affect with others in the company.

The Eco-Workplace analysis shows one year's consumption of nature resources. It also shows how much pollutant discharges and waste the person produces in his or her work. In purpose to give information and help about which activities who lead to the main part of the environmental impact, a profile also shows the individual's affect from five different "activity areas";

Namely:
  • Commuting between work and home
  • Office equipment, furniture
  • Office supplies
  • Business travelling
  • Office premises

Why Eco-Workplace analysis for the employees?

When a company intensifies its environmental work, through an education or a certification plan, there is a great need to integrate the environmental work, not only in direct work with the product but also in the whole daily activity in the company. This entirety is in the long run also a condition if the personnel shall be engaged in the environmental work for the company's business activity. The Eco-Workplace analysis works as a pedagogical tool to keep the process going despite the fact that "the lecturer has gone home".
The Eco-Workplace analysis can work as yardstick of the environmental work, for exampel, both before starting and also after an education or certification, i.e. "measuring if constant improvements are being achieved".
